We are seeking highly motivated applicants with a strong desire to enter the challenging field of law enforcement to fill non-supervisory officer position in the Police Department. The Detective’s main duties include but are not limited to: investigating crimes that affect all segments of the community, working with the District Attorney’s Office to prosecute criminals, conducting follow-up investigations, charging and arresting those responsible for committing criminal acts and preparing cases in order testify in judicial proceedings. Detectives must cooperate and coordinate efforts with other officers and employees of the department, particularly with respect to the prevention of crime; give efficient and prompt attention to the investigation of cases assigned and utilize and assist other law enforcement agencies in the clearance of crimes; and perform physical tasks associated with being a law enforcement officer, such as running and lifting to apprehend or control persons. Eligibility for retiree health insurance coverage for lateral/sworn officers with law enforcement experience prior to January 1, 2012. This is only for North Carolina laterals who were in the NC Retirement System prior to January 1, 2012.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of 2 years as a sworn law enforcement officer, preferable (not required) with CID experience
• Ability to work on-call shifts, ability to respond to the City of Salisbury within 30 minutes when off duty, and work directed proactive projects
• Must have a valid NC Driver’s License and have no felony convictions
• BLET certification required (out of state certifications can transfer to NC)
• Cannot have been convicted of DUI, DWI, or certain misdemeanors within 5 years
• Applicants will be required to submit to the standard City and Police Department’s hiring process to include the Criminal Investigation’s Division selection procedure

Hiring range: : $45190.48-$64621.78(Salary is negotiable DOE and Training)

$2,000.00 sign-on bonus to be paid as a lump sum after successful completion of probationary period.
